Interviews - Mindsight - 11.08.2004
Q - Starting off... Can you each please state your name, age, what you do in the band and nicknames if you have any?
A - Brian Weathers - Drums, Aaron Graunke "A-Ron"- Vocals, Danni Schaper - Guitar, Marquette Fricot "Q"- Bass, Anthony Bisceglie "Maestro"- Percussion/Electronics

Q - As a band, are all of the members more like a close-knit family or just business associates with a similar goal?
A - close-knit family with the same goals, dreams, & direction in mind.

Q - How did you decide on the name "Mindsight"? Does it have a special meaning?
A - we couldn't agree on a name & our guitar player came up with it & it was originally mindsight 20/20 but about 1yr ago we dropped the 20/20. we just decided it works. To us it means "what you see in your head" its kind of self explanatory I guess. Our mindsight is... style of music, goals & aspirations, direction, whatever... I guess you could say the ideas that we combine to create our music are from similar "mindsight"!

Q - What music or artists have inspired you the most or influenced you to do what you do today?
A - A perfect circle, Incubus, Deftones, Sevendust, The Used & a few others.

Q - How would you describe the relationship between the band and your fans?
A - the fans are the most important part of it all of course. With out people who like your vision how the hell are you gonna get noticed??!! We love meeting new fans/friends at every show we play or every venue we promote outside of... it makes creating music all the more interesting. Over all I would say our relationship between our fans & us is GRAND & we wouldn't trade anything for the friends we have made over the years.

Q - What music or artists are currently in your CD player?
A - Brian - the Used, A-Ron - Pulse Ultra, Danni - Sevendust, Q - Deftones, Maestro - Beastie Boys

Q - What bands would you recommend that everyone should hear but has not gained the exposure that they deserve?
A - if you mean local, check out our links page on the site: mindsightmusic.com. if you mean national, one comes to mind & that would be Sevendust. They have not gotten the huge "Arena show sellout" shit yet but boy do they deserve it. One of the hardest touring bands with the best live show you will ever see. I think they played Chicago alone 3-4 times this year... that's insane for a national!

Q - How would you describe your live shows?
A - if I don't feel dizzy when I get off my drums at the end of a set, I didn't play hard enough. Seriously we feel like.. every song should have as much intensity as the first one. People came to see that. It doesn't matter if its 2 people or 200, we put on the same show regardless. Its just as important to play our songs good as it is to have good stage presence. We try to make each show unique.

Q - What bands would you one day love to tour with?
A - Sevendust or Deftones or whoever will let us tour with them!! haha

Q - How would you say that your music and the band itself have evolved from when the band first started?
A - In the last 5yrs we have been through 3 singers 2 guitar players & a DJ! Brian & Q hooked up with Danni about 4 years ago. at about the same time we united with Tony a high school friend & fellow drummer. Then A-Ron was the final piece which was found 1yr ago. We have written many songs together & are now finally starting to get in a groove & find our sound/style. We recently have thrown out the songs we feel don't have the direction we want to achieve & are currently writing an arsenal of killa, no filla! Plans for our next demo will be to record in Dec. As people, we have a relationship like best friends... don't get me wrong we probably fight more then any other band in Chicago but at the end of the day the songs are where we want them to be & that's the priority.

Q - Is the band trying to portray any kind of message through the music and lyrics?
A - each song has its own message... all we can say is that it's usually a positive one & has something to do with one of our, or most times A-Ron's life experiences rather then a made up tale. WE JUST WANT TO FLOW WITH POSITIVE ENERGY & GROW IN THE LOCAL MUSIC SCENE TO SEE WHERE IT TAKES US. !..That's what we live by.

Q - Do you have any thoughts or advice for people trying to start up a band or already have a young band?
A - don't go into it thinking your gonna get signed. Go into it thinking your going to write the best songs you possibly can. Getting a record deal would be a great thing but getting to tour with kick-ass bands & make enough cash to survive would be just as cool.... at least that's what were striving for!

Q - Any last comments or shout-outs?
A - just want to shout out the Chi- Chi-town is our home & will always be our home. We wont move to try & make something happen. We want to concentrate on making our presence known here before anywhere else. It would be nice to be known all across the world though.... Maybe one day!
