Interviews - Over It - 02.02.2005
Hey guys, it's me br0ken, I'm here one on one with Seth Watts, bassist for punk rock band Over It. We will talk about some personal stuff and even plug their upcoming album "Silverstrand," which will be in stores March 8th, 2005 by Lobster Records, so make sure to check it out.

Q - First off, please state your names, position in band, and nickname if you have any?
A - Greetings, I'm Seth, I have been known to play bass, drive the van, eat the food and sleep. For the longest time everyone i know everyone has called me the ghoul and last month I got a new nick name in Hawaii when someone told me I looked like 'Paul Newman'.

Q - Where did you guys decide on the name "Over It"? Does it have a special meaning?
A - We named the band along time ago and it actually came from our buddy Joe that was our original bass player. He was the single most founding member of the band and he passed away years ago, but we've kept the name as a sort of tribute to our friend.

Q - How long have you guys known each for and how much has the band evolved from when you guys first met, until now?
A - Oh man, been a long time... We've been going at it for right around five years now, although the four of us go way back as friends. We're all from the same small community in northern virginia. I used to carpool with peter to pre school.

Q - What message are you trying to portrait through your music and lyrics?
A - We try to keep our music positive and the messages we tend to send are hopeful ones. I think if we ever got big enough they'd allow our stuff to be sold in Walmart because we're not particularly offensive. In fact, we're not offensive at all. I bet your grandma would like our band.

Nah, she's into that old classical western stuff...

Q - What bands would you recommend that everyone should hear but has not gained the exposure that they deserve?
A - Near Miss, Stole Your Woman and Hey Mike on Takeover Records. Tokyo Rose on Sidecho Records. Don't Look Down, Rufio, A Wilhelm Scream on Nitro Records. Staring Back, Park, Days Like These, Lorene Drive, and A Small Victory on Lobster Records. Rad bands and rad labels.

Wow, that's a lot of bands (Laughs).

Q - What music or artists have inspired you the most or influenced you to do what you do today?
A - They Might Be Giants might secretly be to blame for alot melodies in our songs. Mostly we've been listening to punk rock since we've let music rule our lives and labels like Jade Tree, Fat Wreck Chords, Revelation, Epitaph, Hopeless, and Lookout have greatly shaped our musical minds.

Q - You have a new album coming out on March 8th entitled "Silverstrand". I wanted to know what your favourite song on the new CD is and did you have trouble trying to pick which tracks to add to it (if you recorded a lot of songs beforehand)?
A - We recorded 18 songs and cut it down to 12. We had quite a hard time figuring out which songs to leave off, but i'd say we all were very sure of about 10 of the songs on the record. My favorite song is called Shine, i guess because i enjoy playing it live so much. It's another look at the softer side of Over It.

Q - With the upcoming release of your new album, do you plan on releasing an EP to go along with it?
A - Very interesting question. Yes. We've talked about doing an EP in Japan with the leftover songs and calling it 'The Strand'.

Q - How would you describe the relationship between the band and with the fans when you are on the road or anywhere?
A - I love fans. They rule and we encourage them to hang out with us. We're perpetually bored and seeking distractions. If you ever see us hanging out, come say hello. Don't be a stranger.

Q - What is the meaning behind the song "Siren on the 101"? Everytime I listen to it, I can't get it out of my head. Do you plan on using it as a single to promote your new album? A - Kinda, but we're also at the level where we dont really have a single, we just have an album full of songs to push. Siren On The 101 is autobiographical in some respect. What does that mean? Listen 100 more times and we'll talk more about it.

OK. I will (Laughs.)

Q - Well thank you for your time, it was greatly appreciated to come out and answer these questions. Do you have any last comments or shoutouts you would like to make?
A - Cheers! thanks alot for the interview.

Alright, that does it for me, don't forget to check out my interview with Outcry, I will have it soon, maybe on the next update.. who knows --- peace
