Another Breath - Mill City
New York is home to some of the best, most
versatile, and groundbreaking hardcore bands in the entire world. Bands like
Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, and Murphy’s Law are just a few bands that put
New York hardcore on the map and ultimately paved the way for future New York
hardcore bands like H2O, Madball, and Sworn Enemy. Another Breath is an upcoming
hardcore band from New York that strives to create hardcore punk that isn’t the
same thing you’ve heard over and over again. Their first full-length, “Mill
City,” features elements of punk, rock, and modern hardcore meshed together to
create a display of hardcore punk that is truly inspiring.
“Mill City” opens up with the fast-paced and
aggressive “Jailbreak,” which features Another Breath at their best in terms of
reliving hardcore punk from past eras. Songs like “A Tragic Hero,” “Diesel And
Gunpowder,” and “Orange” showcase Another Breath’s most groundbreaking work,
while songs like “Catharsis” and “Anchors” provide refreshing versions of
hardcore mixed with elements of punk and rock. As the rest of the album
progresses, Another Breath showcase that it is possible to be new and innovative
within hardcore and punk rock. Another Breath play a type of hardcore that still
contains the motives of traditional hardcore bands, but musically create moments
that are reminiscent of epic bands like Modern Life Is War, American Nightmare,
and even older hardcore punk bands like Youth Brigade and Bad Brains.
Another Breath have definitely proved that they
could definitely pull off an album that is even better than their stunning EP,
“Not Now, Not Ever.” Another Breath are 100% themselves on this album and it can
be heard vividly and with an enormity of passion. “Mill City” is easily one of
the best hardcore albums to come out this year and definitely shows that this
band is worth paying attention to. Much like their more popular label mates Go
It Alone and Allegiance, Another Breath are creating aggressive, fast, and
innovative hardcore that is true to what hardcore punk really stands for. This
album never lets down and contains some of the most passionate lyrics and
musical prowess to come out of a New York hardcore band in years. Definitely
pick this album up if you’re just aching for a meaningful, aggressive, and
multitalented punk album.
