Forever Changed - Chapters

It's always a tragedy when a stunning young band put down their instruments and walk off stage. It's even worse when that band quits just before what would be the pinnacle of their success. This describes Forever Changed, who went from pushing demos to being one of the most talked about bands before their debut Floodgate album was even released. As expected, the album took off. As FC's first round was about to turn over into the second one, they announced they would be disbanding. While many fans were disappointed at the news, the aspiring quartet announced they would be going out with one last album, 'Chapters.'

The songs on 'Chapters' are more or less of the same Forever Changed that we heard on 'The Need To Feel Alive.' One could presume they would have rushed the writing of this final album, but the songs show that Forever Changed are comfortable with their sound and planned to go out at their best. The catchy and fun rock hooks are back, and Forever Changed are just as serious as ever -- if not more -- with their lyrics. There seems to be a general theme on the album, which is turning your back and walking away from hope, love and dreams, and the eventual turning back to those things. Dan Cole's delivery of these lyrics display a maturity well beyond his age. While the guitarist and bassist aren't show-offish, they let out stellar licks in a few tracks, like “Time Will Change Everything,” “The Disconnect” and “Starting To Sink.” The strongest tracks on the album are “Time Will Change Everything,” “The Runaway,” “It's Too Late” and the only light song of the set, “Cradle Eyes.”

The production on this album is impressively detailed and crisp. The only element of this CD that falls shorts of 'The Need To Feel Alive' is the artwork. Other than that, 'Chapters' is a very good way to end the career of Forever Changed; 12 more solid tracks of the energetic rock they were known for. If you were expecting a different sound from these guys this time around, you will be disappointed. If you found yourself enjoying the previous album and just want another shot before the well runs dry, than this is just what you need.
