Buckethead - Crime Slunk Scene

With Buckethead's recent addition to the popular game "Guitar Hero II", featuring his frequently played live song "Jordan". I thought it was time to review his latest tour cd, which was on sale on his recent American fall tour.

The album kicks off with "King James," which is very reminiscent of the for mentioned track “Jordan”, but a little mellower. Buckethead then revisits his past with a riff from his first solo album "Bucketheadland," he builds upon this with some funky lead work. Buddy Berkman was a character from a Brady Bunch episode, he was a producer who used Greg "Aka Johnny Bravo". I have no idea the reasoning behind this, but I guess Buckethead lives the Brady bunch as he seems to have alot of references to his favourite movies and television shows littered throughout his music. Needless to say, it makes for a pretty groovin track.

The epic "Soothsayer" is definitely the stand out song from this release, starting off soft and slow it builds into an awesome showcase of talent and musicianship. The last half of the album is filled with the weird and wonderful. Crazy duelling on “Col. Austin vs. Col. Sanders, four finger nubbing on "Electronic Slight of Hand". “We Can Rebuild Him” is another shout out to one of Buckethead’s favourite shows, robot like sequences are all over this track. The album finishes up with perhaps the strangest song of the bunch, with high frequency shredding.

As always Buckethead delivers, which is a mean feat when you’re putting out three albums a year? With each one still retaining something unique and interesting. Buckethead is defiantly pushing the limits of guitar music, as well as paying homage to his idols. Again I stress that Buckethead is not for everyone, but those that listen seem to end up hearing something special.

You can download the album from TDRS Music the acutal CD should be on sale there soon.
