Shipwreck -
Deathwish 7" EP
Boston hardcore has been historically known for producing some of the best bands within the punk and hardcore music genres. Bands like the Dropkick Murphys, Bane, American Nightmare, Ten Yard Fight, and many more, are bands that have all had some hand in making Boston hardcore known across the globe. Shipwreck is a band that is likely to follow in those same footsteps and make an impact globally. Their recently released 7” EP features Shipwreck’s best, most mature work to date, and also showcases just how hard this band is working to make their sound unique among hardcore punk, while still staying true to the genre’s core ideals.
Overall, the EP is a great start to a new sound that appears much more polished and technically superior to the band’s previous releases, yet maintains a sound that is true to what the band has been doing for years. Although extremely punk influenced, Shipwreck does use touches of metal splashed on to their hardcore punk-based sound. If you aren’t necessarily into metalcore, you need not worry as the EP is still very much punk oriented; enough to where the band’s sound is heavy, but not as much as bands like Hatebreed.
This self-titled 7” is great for anyone looking to get into hardcore and is also a must have for fans of Terror, Integrity, or Have Heart. If you’re lacking a turntable, you can still purchase the EP through the Deathwish webstore (www.deathwishinc.com) and download the songs digitally.
