Deli Creeps -
Dawn Of The Deli Creeps
Deli Creeps? They are that apron
wearing band. 15 years after the conception of the Deli Creeps they have finally
released their debut album. Having previously released several demos and
disbanding several times I'm sure many of their fans are ecstatic to finally
have this in their hands.
Deli Creeps consists of Maximum
Bob on vocals, having also sung backup vocals on Mr. Bungle’s debut. As well as
lending his talents to NECK. Guitarist Buckethead, most known for his four year
stint with Guns N Roses. Buckethead also has a back catalogue of solo and many
other projects spanning back to the early 90's. Lastly skinsman Pinchface who
has mainly worked on Buckethead's solo releases, as well as some of his other
bands such as "Cornbugs". These three have been members since the beginning. Dan
Monti is now the main bassist in the band. Having also worked with Buckethead on
his solo releases.
"Can I Have a Ride" a Deli Creep
classic starts the release. Buckethead takes a backseat for those familiar with
his past works. Allowing Maximum Bob to shine, shouting his unusual vocals over
low grooves. The lyrics are more rants, spewing from his mouth. The ballad
"Found Body" lets Bob display his singing talents, crooning about a bloated body he found the
other day. "Time" is also in a similar
style, except the lyrics are a little more on the serious side. "Buried Deep Stays Buried
Still" has a very catchy chorus which is contrasted by some odd effects and song
structure. Defiantly a high light of the album. "Grandpa Bill", "Chores", "Boom Ch Ka" and "Random Killing" are all
Deli Creep classics. Anyone who's been following Buckethead's past work will
find "Random Killing" very familiar.
The only real problem I could find
with this album where the two spoken word tracks "Hatchet" and "Beauty Of Life".
While they are hilarious, and I don't think their should be a Deli Creeps album
without such tracks. I can see some listeners not liking them, or not
understanding why they are there. I would of also liked to hear some more
soloing by Buckethead, but I can find that elsewhere.
Well crafted songs that stick in
your heard, with abnormal lyrical content which makes the band something
special. In a genre populated with Radio Rock and Metalcore this is a pleasant
change from the overused sounds which we hear so much. Anyone with an open mind
and an ear for great music should really enjoy this album. If you can get your
hands on a copy that is.
