Fireflight - The Healing Of Harms

Hailing from an emerging rock scene in Orlando, Florida, Fireflight has shared the stage with national artists since their inception in early 2000. Some of those artists include Anberlin, Skillet, Kutless, Disciple, Kids In The Way and countless others. From these opportunities they’ve earned the respect of bands across the country and have gained attention from labels and agencies industry wide. Fireflight is composed of Dawn Richardson (vocals), Justin Cox (guitar, bgv), Glenn Drennen (guitar), Wendy Drennen (bass) and Phee Shorb (drums).

The debut record is the culmination of five years playing shows and waiting patiently for the right opportunity. But this project would not have been possible without the EP they released two years prior appropriately titled “On The Subject of Moving Forward”. That project is what led them to sign with Flicker Records (Pillar, Kids in the Way), who will release the bands first national album. “The Healing of Harms” will be released July 25 through Flicker Records and was Produced by the legendary Skidd Mills (Sister Hazel, Saliva, Skillet).

Stemming from what seems like an un-relentless supply of Christian Rock talent, Fireflight emerges above the norm with their stunning debut album. Most commonly compared to the likes of Evanescence and Flyleaf, this female fronted Hard Rock band has got it all. Mixing elements of hard rock, with hints of emo-core and progressive metal, Fireflight explodes through your speakers with an irrefutable sound. The eleven track debut encompasses a parade of hits. The album starts things off nicely with ‘Serenity’, a lead track with good energy that sets the stage for the rest of the album. Tracks like ‘More Than A Love Song’ and ‘Its You’ are slightly slower and softer than the others, which help add variety to the album. ‘Waiting’ is a very powerful track with its heavy distorted guitars and harmonic chorus. ‘You Decide’ is another amazing track that reminds me a lot of Evanescence. It features Josh Brown (Day Of Fire). The exchange of vocals between Josh and Dawn builds a foundation that gets more powerful as the song progresses. Another stand out track is ‘Liar’ which features features David Paul Pelsue (Kids In The Way). David makes his presence known with his signature screamo vocals, making this the most powerful track on the album.

“The Healing of Harms” is one part testimony and one part inspiration to those who are alone. It also speaks to those facing insurmountable odds and needing answers after falling in harms way. It’s an album that exposes pride, gossip, guilt, and shame and then reciprocates by answering it with humility, love, forgiveness and hope. It’s no secret that Fireflight is on its way to an amazing career. With such a solid album, label and promotional support, there is no way to go but up.
