Haley Wojick - Jealous Sees

In this day an age of American Idol, and boy-girl band pop sensations, it’s very refreshing when something unique comes along. The music of Hailey Wojcik is nothing short of refreshing.

Bridging the gap between Folk-Rock and Acoustic Rock is exactly what Hailey does with her fourth studio album entitled “Jealous Sees”. The album has nine tracks that cover a wide range of topics.

I have to say I don’t normally review this genre of music. In most cases it turns out that the finished product is really interesting so keep reading! Without a doubt, “Jealous Sees” is an ear stimulator. Encompassing the use of many ‘forgotten’ instruments in her music, make them very appealing to a wide range of listeners. Instruments like the ukulele and xylophone give the songs a unique musical perspective. If they songs aren’t stimulating enough, Hailey has a true and honest passion for songwriting, as she touches base with many topics. Acceptance is the underlying theme for ‘Dinosaur Bone’. The lyrics promise “someday you’ll really dig me”. ‘Jealous Sees’ is simply an achingly earnest ballad about jealousy. Hailey shows her anger and slightly evil side with “Fuck You (I Quit)”. This is a song which displays her anger towards her co-workers and the satisfaction of quitting a job she dislikes. Something we all have fantasized about, but only a select few have actually experienced it.

There is no doubt in my mind that Hailey Wojcik is a very talented musician, who is trying to steer away from the influences of others, and just do her own thing. The album has garnered national attention from the press, festivals, and college radio stations. “Jealous Sees” is one of Performing Songwriter magazine’s Top 12 DIY albums for January/February 2006. Playback STL magazine has called her "the newest genius of the music scene." Jealous Sees was also nominated for a Jammie for folk album of the year by WYCE of Grand Rapids, MI, in February 2006. If you haven’t checked out her music by now, you are truly missing out.
