Janez Detd
- Like Cold Rain Kills A Summer Day
When it comes to melodic yet powerful punk rock from Europe you can't miss Janez Detd (short for Jane’s Determined). They started out a decade ago at such a young age, that they already have a whole career as one of the best punk rock bands in Western Europe, but are still young, full of energy and eager to take on the rest of the world! In Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg, Janez Detd. have achieved almost anything a punk rock band can desire: they've hit every single stage from the tiniest clubs to the biggest festivals and topped the Belgian alternative charts for months in a row .Janez Detd is composed of Bones (Nicolas van der Veken) (guitar, vocals), Wim Vanhenden (vocals, guitar), Bob Haentjens (vocals, bass) and Bram Steemans (drums).
They have also got massive airplay on music channels and received several MTV awards. However, having provided 4 albums of musical wallpaper, brightening every room, they knocked us off our socks with their new album, “Like Cold Rain Kills A Summer Day”. The album was released on I Scream Records June 6, 2006.
Janez Detd’s music can be described as melodic yet powerful punk rock. It is in no way pop-punk, emo or post-hardcore. I’m not saying these qualities aren’t evident in their music, but they just don’t take precedence in the overall crafted sound. Their sound is more reminiscent of older punk bands such as NOFX and Pennywise. They take the best qualities from these bands, add in a dash of Yellowcard and create their own unique and modern sound. ‘Killing Me II’ and ‘Kids Today’ convey a heavy energetic punk sound, while the hits ‘Anti-Anthem’ and ‘Breaking The Waves’ have a more radio friendly ambiance. Tracks like ‘Deep’ and ‘Alright’ and where you’ll find the catchy hooks and profound harmonics. ‘Mala Vida’ is another stand-out track, which has a lot of ska influence and is actually sung in Spanish.
Overall the album has an excellent flow with many stand-out tracks. It’s obvious the band has developed significantly over their career span, and still very young, they have a long and successful career ahead. With excellent exposure and a proven success in Europe, it’s only a matter of time before Janez Detd takes the world by storm.
