Most Of Our Universe Is Missing (EP)
Sounding young and new is both the strength and weakness of this California trio on their debut EP 'Most Of Our Universe Is Missing.' At one moment the transition sounds abrupt, and at another it's the bands main appeal. Uncommon to most albums, the first track comes close to negligible. "Good Things Happen To Bad People" sounds juvenile, but it's plush organ encourages further listening. "Paper Moon" is musically a bit spooky, especially with the haunting keyboards. "Blueprint" kick starts the better half of the EP, combining a catch verse with a driving upbeat chorus. "No Place To Run" gains gradual and enjoyable momentum throughout and "You're Still Alive" is a bouncey track about being lost and without a sense of home. The latter is my favorite track on the album and seems to work the best for these musicians. This EP has some good ideas, but most tracks could use extra instrumentation to spruce it up, especially the first two songs, as the main drawback of this EP is keeping one's interest. With better production, arrangement and lyrics, this EP would have had twice the potential as it does.
