Trakan -
Opening Soon Under New Management
Trakan combines pop-rock, folk, and even some punk into their own unique style which is Trakan. Most of the songs contain poetic themes ranging from love lost and time wasted to corporate oppression and a shameless infatuation with the weather. The lyrics are very passionate and the use of the acoustic guitar really complements the vibe of the album, while injecting each story with plenty of genuine emotion.
Trakan sings all lead vocals and plays almost every instrument on the album, while drawing inspiration from such bands as Coupleskate, Nouveau Broke, The E-Mics, and The Red Plastic Buddha. The album displays an interesting tempo change with slower songs like "A Fool's Lament and "Anne-Marie", and then faster songs like "Summer” and "Here Comes Julie". This ability to successfully transition the tempo from one song to the next really displays how dynamic Trakan is.
While many of the songs are very emotional and expressive, there are some tracks which display Trakan's comedic aspect such as "Kiss My Ass" and "High in the Bathroom". With such an interesting and unique sound, it will be hard not to check out this Chicago indie-folk band and hear their album "Opening Soon Under New Management".
