Seconds To Go
Commitment, creativity and patience are all words synonymous with the evolution of Seconds to Go. Approaching nearly five years as a band, Seconds to Go have managed to keep their original lineup intact, and that level of commitment has profoundly affected the band’s songwriting ability by consistently pushing the creative process to new levels. Taking the route of patience has obviously paid dividends for Seconds to Go, allowing them to gain experience and solidify their sound.
After a successful supporting tour with Face To Face / My Chemical Romance and numerous independent tours across Canada, Seconds to Go is finally set to launch their powerful debut album. Derived from a variety of influences, the album resonates with massive riffs delivered with skill and precision, while Nick Harris’ now-signature vocals characterizes the album’s youthful angst and passion.
Seconds To Go’s sound is fused together by a robust influence from both the rock and punk genres. The instruments emanate the rock similarities while Nick’s vocals have a punk edge to them. The songs on the album have good energy and there are some nice harmonics found within the album’s 43 minute duration. The band reminds me most of Anemic. This is due to the fact that they are a young and up and coming band. Also, their music is pure and hasn’t been tainted by a big record label or the industry. I did however have a rough time getting through the entire album as many of the songs sound very similar to one another. I still was very impressed as the album has some mentionable tracks. Songs I would definitely recommend are ‘Masquerade’, ‘Exits’, ‘This Door’, and ‘Gallery’. The album contains a hidden instrumental track found at the end of ‘Very Monster’ which is a nice way of summing up the album.
Some say that first impressions are the most important. With their well rounded sound this young band has made an outstanding first impression with me. Seconds To Go have managed to piece together a ten-track debut album worthy of some definite attention. I do see a lot of potential for the band, but I also see room for growth which I’m confident the band can pick up on as they move forward with their musical careers.
