Sinclair - a-cu-st1k (EP)

Since 2002, Sinclair has been a fixture of the Edmonton music scene. Their unique brand of melodic rock is defined by the diversity of each member. In the last three years, Sinclair has successfully released their debut CD "Hit the Ground". The supporting tour for that album brought them around Alberta and all the way across the country to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador - where all members originally hail from! Their rousing songs and intoxicating live shows have landed them on stage with icons Kim Mitchell, The Northern Pikes, The Commitments, Honeymoon Suite and guitar-slinger Bobby Cameron. The band consists of Scott Greene (Guitar & Vocals), Mike Letto (Lead Guitar & Vocals), Ed Smith (Keyboard & Vocals), Ken Greene (Bass) and Steve Pinsent (Drums).

Now in 2005, Sinclair has released their second album, "a-ku-st1k". The Acoustic EP consists of three new songs and two acoustic versions taken from their debut album.

Sinclair’s "a-ku-st1k" EP is the second acoustic album I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing recently. The band has definitely taken a new direction, from their pop-to-hard rockish debut “Hit The Ground”(2003). The acoustic EP features five well put together tracks. The acoustic tracks definitely give a richer sound and appreciation for the all the instruments, especially the softer but still powerful vocals. It’s amazing to hear the differences between the plugged and unplugged versions of ‘You’re About To Fall’ and ‘Tumble Down’. Though I usually prefer the louder version of songs, I can appreciate the relaxation and ear stimulating sensations that acoustics bring to me ears. One stand out track is most definitely’ Beyond My Control’. The track features the angelic vocals of Amanda Gosse. This song truly possesses the superstar/popstar potential to be a milestone song for the artists.

It’s refreshing to see both growth and maturity in bands as they age together. Constantly evolving, Sinclair decided to capture their new songs in thoughtful acoustic arrangements. What better way to express yourself musically and really dig deep, bringing music back to basics.
