Sparks The Rescue -
The Secrets We Can't Keep
Portland Maine’s Sparks The Rescue have been making waves in the independent scene for a few years now and have finally ended up signed to Double Blind Music. With this new label behind them the band has got back to what they do best, making music. For their first release on Double Blind Music the band have done a new digital EP, ‘The Secrets We Can't Keep’, to showcase why the band deserved the labels attention.
The six song EP is a high tempo affair that reveals a young yet mature band. At first listen you get the impression that Sparks The Rescue are just like any other emo punk band out there but after you revisit the EP you hear what makes this band special. The bands sound is quite layered with subtle synths underneath a dual guitar attack. The synths are not as pronounced as other bands such as Anberlin and Scary Kids Scaring Kids but they do the trick. When you add the bass and the drums to this already formidable sound you get music that hits you like a sonic boom.
The one thing that sticks out the most on the EP is the fact that there is not one bad song on it. Every song could be played on the radio next to some of today’s biggest bands and they would fit right in. The feature track on the EP, “Nurse! Nurse! (I’m Losing My Patients)” is a spirited affair with fast riffing, heavy drumming, loud screaming and synths that tie everything together. This song is indicative of what Sparks The Rescue are capable of. I can’t wait to see what the band has in store for their full length album that is due out later this year on Double Blind Music. For now Sparks The Rescue have proven themselves worthy of the attention that they have received.
