Amity Lane - The Sound Of Regret

When I read that TRUSTcompany had broken up, I was very disappointed and could not believe it. But sooner than later a miracle happened and Kevin Palmer and Josh Moates came back and introduced themselves in a new group by the name of Amity Lane. For those who didn’t know, the band name “Amity Lane” is actually the street name that Kevin grew up on. I just thought I’d pass that along. Amity Lane is labeled under Corporate Punishment Records and also includes Kevin’s wife Layla. When I heard this, I was very excited and couldn’t wait to hear their material and on Halloween, I had the honor of doing so. The band released their debut album entitled “The Sound of Regret”. Let me tell you, I still feel the TRUSTcompany sound added in their music but there’s a more special touch added to it and I love that Josh and Kevin didn’t hang it up so to speak and continued to what they believed in, and that was making music for us fans to love and enjoy. Once again, Amity Lane consists of Kevin Palmer on vocals and guitars, wife Layla Palmer on vocals and keys, Josh Moates on bass guitar, and Jason Rash, who does all the noise boards, sounds and samples.

The album starts off with their current single “Drown You Out”. I heard this song back in the demo stages when it sounded like the band were using preset drums for the tracks but later remixed and re-recorded to what you hear now on their CD and what a major difference in sound. The sound effects added in the background of the song add a lot of energy and make the song more listenable in all ways. It’s a good way to introduce the album to tell the world that they are still here, maybe not under TRUSTcompany as they used to be, but Amity Lane and they aren’t going anywhere and are telling you to listen to their music. “Die for You” is another good addition to the album and I wouldn’t be surprised if the band use this as their second single. The drum beats at the intro of the song are very well played and it’s a good mixture to the riffs that kick in a few seconds later. A song about a man who will die for the one that he loves, hell, who wouldn’t? Next we have “Waiting for Goodbye”, one of my personal favorites of the entire album. The song starts off with slow melodies and then picks it up later on with high-filled energy that makes the song complete. A few tracks later would be my personal favorite track, “Million Miles Away”. I say this because I have friends who compare to this song and it is very touching. This song to me is about a girl who is depressed with life and is lonely and doesn’t know where she is going in life. She’s trying to forget about things that have happened to her but she cannot escape reality so to speak. She is so lost in life hence why she is a “Million Miles Away”. Very good track “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about…” very good lyrics for the chorus. The entire album is filled with a hard edge feeling that will make you want to listen to the album over a 100 times, and believe me, I think I’m already there. At the conclusion of the last track “Say Goodnight” if you fast forward a bit in the silence you will now be listening to an instrumental mix entitled “Angel’s Song”. The song was created and mixed by Josh Moates and I find it is a very good addition to the album and very good to end it that way as well.

In all, if you liked the sound that TRUSTcompany had brought to your ears, then I recommend you picking up this album off their website or in any store you may find the album,. That is of course if you could find it in a store. It seems the label isn’t being very supportive of the band and there have been issues with the album and people trying to order it and such. There are a lot of stores that aren’t even selling the album and even in the bands hometown of Montgomery, Alabama. Something has to be fixed on that situation let me tell you. But your best bet is to try and pick it up off the bands website as they will ship it themselves to you with no problems whatsoever. So please pick this album up and support the band and you won’t be disappointed.
