Escape From Earth -
Who Do I Have To Kill?
In the grand scheme of things there are things that make sense and things that don’t. When it comes to Escape From Earth things just don’t seem to make sense. The band has had plenty of exposure, won multiple song writing competitions and shared the stage with many of today’s top artists yet find themselves without a record deal. Make sense? I don’t thinks so. Maybe being on the outside looking in isn’t that bad. Why work with a record label when you can do everything on your own and have complete control. This is the attitude Escape From Earth took when they released their full length debut ‘Who Do I Have To Kill?’
The new album follows in the footsteps of the bands debut EP, ‘Three Seconds East’, in terms of songwriting but adds a new level of instrumentation. Escape From Earth also seem to have added a bit more sensitivity into their sound this time around. The result is a catchy pop rock album with excellent hooks and a distinct sense of optimism. Songs like “Who Do I Have To Kill?”, “So Much More” and “Faster” are reminiscent of the bands past work. These songs all feature a heavier sound and will please long time fans of the band.
On the flip side, songs like “Did You Know”, “Kiss In A Cup” and “This Is Goodbye” showcase the bands growth. “Did You Know” features an almost anticlimactic chorus, “Kiss In A Cup” features some nice piano and “This Is Goodbye” is purely based on emotion. These songs add a wonderful new dimension to Escape From Earth’s sound.
While the album is kind of split into two different types of songs one song really brings the album together, “Melting”. The song features all the elements that make Escape From Earth a great band. The songwriting is impeccable while the music is first class. The song also balances the heaviness of the bands EP with the emotion of the new album. With songs like this Escape From Earth might not need a record label to make things make sense, but a record label just might help bring them to the next level.
