Biography
It’s rare when you can find a band that not only stands out in its own right, but also has the talent that assures longevity.
Formerly known to many as Gone To Earth, BulletProof Messenger experimented with many styles of music before finally finding their niche. While the melodic guitar riffs resemble that of alternative rock, the programming and electronics add a completely new dynamic. All the different influences are clearly reflected in the music and live performances.
During that time, the band recorded and gigged in such prestigious NY venues as CBGB’s, The Continental, Crazy Donkey, Knitting Factory, Lamour’s , The Dublin Pub, and The Downtown; opening for such national acts as Dream Theater keyboard player Derek Sherinian.
In early 2004, after a grueling search for a singer, vocalist Marcus Klavan joined the band. His dedication was immediately evident when he relocated from his home in Maryland to Long Island, NY.
Following the bands three year struggle, the band caught their big break. Incubus chose the band to perform as their opening act after consideration of countless applicants. This show ignited the following year’s touring schedule.
In early 2005, the band was selected to perform in the 92.5 KGB FM Clear Channel Battle of the Bands. After being selected from over 50 applicants, the band went on to win the competition, turning heads along the way with their newest addition Alex Straiter who brought an exciting new dynamic to the sound of BulletProof Messenger.
In August of 2005, the band was selected by Collective Soul to be the direct opener for the release of their new 2005 album. In addition, after this show, the band was selected by XM Satellite Radio as one of the top unsigned acts in the country.
In November of 2005, the band entered into a nationwide contest to be an opener for the bands Trapt and Blindside. The rules were simple, send in a link to the music and Trapt would decide the winners. Out of over 1000 entries, BulletProof Messenger was selected as one of the acts to perform.
Within the past year, the group has undergone many changes. Two new members were added to the lineup: Jesse Downing on bass and Scott Martin on guitar, making the sound more solid than ever. But the most significant event was the completion of the bands debut release, “The Crucial Line”, released in fall 2006 under their new band name, BulletProof Messenger.
Argument
BulletProof Messenger is an amazing band that has not received enough attention in the ever evolving music industry. The band has an amazing DIY attitude that has gotten them nearly 250,000 plays on myspace from their 12,000 plus friends. Fans that have bought the bands new album ‘The Crucial Line’ are raving all over the internet and are posting five star reviews wherever they can.
Aside from fans, musicians and industry personal are also raving about the band. BulletProof Messenger was hand chosen by artist like Collective Soul and Trapt to open for them. The band has also opened for one of the biggest rock bands around, Incubus. Radio and satellite radio have even gotten behind the band by playing their songs.
Even with all of these accolades and praise it always boils down to one thing, the music. BulletProof Messenger are something different that what you hear everyday. They are the most exciting musical hybrid since Linkin Park. Their diversity is showcased in every song that they write even if it means the band has to step outside of the box. BulletProof Messenger mixes heavy guitars, powerful vocals, serene piano and timely scratching together to produce a sound unmatched by anyone.
The fact that BulletProof Messenger has gotten this far without being compromised in this industry is a testament in itself. They still have plenty of room to grow and develop into one of today’s best bands if given the right opportunity.
Possible Labels
A few labels that might be a good fit for BulletProof Messenger are Double Blind Music, Machine Shop Records and Rock Ridge Music. Double Blind Music is a new label that has built a strong foundation with bands like 32 Leaves and Opus Dai. BulletProof Messenger would fit right in and help build an already strong roster. Machine Shop Records is an imprint of Warner Brother Records run by the guy from Linkin Park. With obvious comparisons of experimentation and instrumentation between BulletProof Messenger and Linkin Park, Machine Shop might be the place where the band could learn the most. Rock Ridge Music is more famous for helping established artists revive their careers but could really use a young upcoming band to solidify their roster. There would be plenty of great musicians that could mentor BulletProof Messenger on Rock Ridge Music.
