Biography

If playing their first show ever on the Vans Warped Tour at Nassau Coliseum was any type of prognosis, Safe As Houses would probably by now be quite humbled. You’d have to be pretty darn good to garner such a commencement. Well, they are that good and they were already humbled to begin with. Herein lies the allure of this rock outfit.

You will not find any gimmicks- trendy haircuts, super tight jeans, eyeliner, _________ (insert cliché here) with Safe As Houses. They could care less about that stuff. They keep their model simple: write good songs and put on a great show. This idea seems simple but is vastly overlooked by so many individuals who call themselves musicians and groups who call themselves a band.

Save As Houses plays a crafty brand of rock. “How To Be Erased” unveils their huge sound and illustrates why this band will prove to have staying power in an industry that is washing out with every pull of the dam plug. The record shows a premature maturation of a core group that share the same principals and bring the same passions into manufacturing dynamic material. Their inventive songwriting makes every listen seem fresh and rewarding. Here in your hand lies the beginning of a band’s illustrious music career.

Argument

Safe As Houses released their debut EP “How It Feels To Be Erased” earlier this year to little hype or fanfare yet over the past few month have made some substantial noise in the music industry. The bands no-nonsense approach to music has earned them critical appraise as well as a legion of fans. Safe As Houses sound is reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World, Renee Heartfelt and Sunny Day Real Estate yet adds a unique pop sensibility into the mix. The result is a mature sound that will catch listeners attention yet leaves the band with room to grow and mature even more.

Safe As Houses has a dedicated internet following, most notably on myspace. This is where the band lives up to their down to earth persona by being as friendly as possible with every single fan. This has garnered the band 50,000 plus plays on myspace from 3,000 friends indicating that the bands songs have great replay value. Being such dedicated musicians has also helped the band book shows. This is most evident when looking at the bands first ever show at the Vans Warped Tour.

Possible Labels

I think it is safe to say that major labels would not be the right fit for Safe As Houses. The band has something special going on right now and it may be too fragile to withstand the pressures of a major label. With that said there are two independent labels that would make for a good fit for Safe As Houses.

The first label that comes to mind is Tooth & Nail Records. Tooth & Nail is home to artists such as Anberlin, Emery and Underoath. This shows that the label has a nice diverse roster for Safe As Houses to tour with and learn from. After listening to the latest Anberlin record you also get the impression that Tooth & Nail are able to work with real artists who want to create meaningful music, which is exactly what Safe As Houses is all about.

The other label that comes to mind when thinking of Safe As Houses is East West. East West is a diverse group of smaller labels that is dedicated to finding and exposing some of the best unknown bands in the pop, punk and rock genres. The labels vast knowledge of music and large roster of artist would be an asset to Safe As Houses and would help expose the band to more people.
