Biography
The name is Tupelo Honey.
The sound is aggressive-alt rock with the sonic interplay of captivating melodic hooks. The voice stands alone as unparallel and unequalled. This band is the new organic.
The band consists of Matthew Landry on vocals, Steve Vincent on bass, Daniel Davidson and Tyler Dianocky on guitars, and Greg Williamson on drums.
They have headlined, played large rock festivals, toured and graced the stage with many of today’s top rock acts. The list includes Theory of a Deadman, Hinder, Three Days Grace, Default, The Trews, Billy Talent, Finger 11, Metric, Thornley and Sam Roberts. The bands audience grows bigger with every show and every cross-country tour.
The much anticipated debut release came in the form of a 6 song EP. The album was released in January of ’05 and has sold over 5000 copies from the stage and retail. The first released single “Why I Bother” received great reviews and went into rotation at many Canadian rock stations, plus a few in the mid west US. The single hit #1 on multiple radio stations and request charts, competing easily with International recording artists. The single was also the #25 song of 2005 at The Bear beating out several of today‘s top bands. The video professionally produced by Mike Maxxis and directed by Chris Helmo received rotation at Much Music.
The highly anticipated winter release, ‘The September Sessions’ features five new songs recently tracked and produced in Toronto (Metalworks, Sony Studios) with Jeff Dalziel of SONY/ATV, it will be released January/February 2007. They also just finished writing and cutting scratch demos of 6 more songs with Jeff and Ian Thornley.
The new single from ‘The September Sessions’, titled “Make Me Believe” was released mid January and is already making huge waves across the country. Within the first week or two that it was released it became the most played song on CBC Galaxie Radio, receiving more play than acts such as The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Tom Petty. It has also received numerous ads to rock and hot AC stations across Canada.
A top club draw in Edmonton with sell-out after sell-out, this band is seeing its stock rise both nationally and internationally. Hooks, catchy choruses, melodic riffs and driving beats, it’s all here in one package. The explosive live show has received stellar reviews and if you haven’t seen the band and heard the music, now is the time as they step out of shadows with something unique and a sound that is their own.
The band is Tupelo Honey.
Argument
Tupelo Honey is the next big band to come out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada following in the footsteps of Social Code and Ten Second Epic. The band has a distinct sound that can be classified as walking the fine line between alternative and rock. The bands self-titled debut EP showcased a band who knew how to rock and write a hook. With the recent release of the bands second EP, The September Sessions, the band revealed a more refined side that could evoke emotion while still getting people out of their seats. The growth between releases shows great promise for this young band.
Touring Canada has been a staple for Tupelo Honey. The band has shared the stage with great Canadian bands like Billy Talent, Finger Eleven and Three Days Grace and has upcoming shows with great Americans bands like Bon Jovi and Hinder. Myspace has been kind to Tupelo Honey with over 100,000 plays and numerous fans dedicated to sharing the bands music. As kind as myspace has been to Tupelo Honey, radio has been even kinder. The bands songs have been receiving solid airplay from coast to coast and have even broken into some American markets. Satellite radio has also picked up the band songs and has broadened the reach of their music.
Possible Labels
Two labels come to mind when thinking about Tupelo Honey, 604 Records and Universal Records. 604 Records might be the best fit for Tupelo Honey as it is an independent label based out of Canada and is run but Nickelback front man Chad Kroger. The label features many young up and coming band from Canada on its Roster and works with great producers like Kroger and Dave Genn (current member of 54-40 and former member of the Matthew Good Band).
Universal Records, specifically its Canadian division, would also be a good fit for Tupelo Honey. This major label would be able to financially back this young band and give them opportunities that other label would not be able to. The only drawback to Universal is that they are a major label and these days it seems that major labels are on the decline. The band might also have to surrender some freedom if they were on a major label and that is something that many bands today would like to avoid.
